Summerfield International School has been collaborating with Durham Community Business College in the UK through the Global Gateway program facilitated by British Council. This unique partnership has allowed both schools to explore different cultures and work together on various projects. One of our teachers visited Durham last year, and made presentations on Bangladesh and our lifestyle.

Recently the schools were working on a social action project “ Looking after you , looking after your world” . The aim of the project was to promote environmental awareness and healthy lifestyle practices. The students from both schools came up with many exciting ideas.

The students from Summerfield visited Savar Dairy Farm to find out about organic food, Narayanganj Waste Concern to learn about waste management, and Beribandh to talk to people about the hardships of living with polluted water all around them. They also organized a healthy food fair, where they created healthy culinary delights!

Students from both schools then put together a joint video, to promote environmental awareness and healthy lifestyle practices. The directorial debut of the Summerfield Students can been seen online at www.summerfield-school.com

Mr Mark Thomson from DCBC came on a four day visit in June to introduce the video and discuss with the Summerfield students on what they learnt. A parents evening was held to share the video with our community.Mark was thrilled to see the enthusiasm of the Summerfielders and the warm hospitality he received.

It is vital to build environmental awareness and healthy lifestyle practices in children from an early age. Our youth are not only our future - they are also our greatest asset and we should let them show us how to keep our planet healthy , clean and vibrant. GO GREEN!
